Weekly Update 2: Lets bring on the solar!
This week has been fantastic. It’s been so nice to relax and hang out with the family, and do lots of exciting solar and electrical work. As you can tell from my blog, I’m a geek developer who’s got some unusual hobbies. This next weeks going to be exciting though!
This weekend we wired up some more solar panels, and put in a new breaker box. We’ve installed 8x15A breakers, each expected to take about 100-120v for 8 hours a day consistently. This provides a lot more electricity for the growing solar array. So far it’s about 26 panels and 20 batteries, generating well over 4kW a day.
In the summer power is never an issue, it’s just the winter! During winter, we may only get 5 hours of sunlight, so positioning and maximizing panels to get enough power is required to keep being able to use the fridge, freezer, microwave, heat and all other conveniences!

At work this week I encountered numerous critical security issues, and rolled out about 200 patches in one big swoop to fix them, ranging from sql injection to cross site scripting, ending with information disclosure! I’m thankful we were able to deploy this to all our customers in a swift manner and prepare for an external security audit.
We’re becoming bigger targets currently due to the excessive amount of data we store securely (emails, names and addresses), so being on top of any and all bugs is very important.
That’s all the fun we had this week at The Geek Bin! Stay tuned new week for some exciting updates!
